How to measure your wallbox before choosing protection
Three dimensions describe the charger enclosure, but they do not tell the whole story. To choose a cover or support, you must also consider the socket, cable, controls, fixings and the space needed during charging.
Essential rule: the external size of a cover is not its usable internal space. A wallbox that “fits on paper” may still have a blocked connector, a covered display or insufficient room for the cable to move.
Eight checks to make
Use a rigid tape measure, record dimensions in millimetres and photograph the charger from the front and side. If it is already installed, do not dismantle it or work on electrical components.
Wallbox enclosure
Measure the maximum height, width and depth of the enclosure, including any fixed protruding parts.
Socket or tethered cable
Record whether the model has a socket or tethered cable. Measure how far the socket or connector protrudes when inserted.
Power-cable entry
Record whether the cable enters from below, above, behind or the side, and how much space the bend requires.
Connector movement
Check the direction needed to insert and remove the handle without hitting the cover.
Controls and display
Locate buttons, RFID reader, display, LEDs and doors that must remain visible and accessible.
Ventilation and maintenance
Respect the manufacturer’s clearances and maintain access to screws, doors and service areas.
Wall and obstacles
Measure the free space above, below and at the sides; note conduits, panels, corners, downpipes and slopes.
Everyday cable use
Check where the cable rests, the coil radius and the route to the vehicle inlet.
Data sheet to complete
This information allows a more reliable preliminary selection and reduces email exchanges.

The choice starts with the installation location. Measurements help identify a candidate configuration; compatibility is confirmed only after checking usable space, cables and fixings.

Frequently asked questions
How much clearance should I add to the wallbox dimensions?
There is no universal clearance. It depends on the connector, cable bend radius, manufacturer’s required distances and the internal geometry of the protection.
Can I rely only on the manufacturer’s data sheet?
It is the correct starting point, but the variant must be checked. A socket version may require different operating space from a tethered-cable version.
Why are photographs needed if I already have the dimensions?
Photographs show cable positions, doors, buttons, brackets and obstacles that three numbers cannot describe.
Does the cover change the wallbox IP rating?
No. External protection does not change the charger’s certifications and does not replace the manufacturer’s or installer’s requirements.
Can I install the protection myself?
Mechanical installation depends on the product and surface. Any electrical work must be carried out by qualified personnel in accordance with the wallbox manual and applicable regulations.
How do I assess a wallbox that has not yet been installed?
Use the exact model and official manual, then measure the planned area including power entry, distance from the ground and obstacles. For Stand or Vela, the foundation and cable route must also be defined.
